December cookie monster

Hey guys! I hope you're all having a good first day of

December

I know it's been nearly a month since my last post. I've been caught up with college work and after all that I wanted to take a break from typing and researching but today is different. My parents are out of town so I am able to relax more towards getting things done and today I've already done all I had to in the morning, all I have to worry about now is cleaning my hamster's cage and making my dinner.

For this post I am going to bring to you... how to make cookies! I wanted to make a post about Christmas as it is the first day of December but it is too early for decorations as I haven't even put my own up yet (I think we're waiting for my sister to come over so we can all do it together like we did last year)

Cookie Monster

I shan't bore you no more... let's get to it!

First of all you will need to gather the ingredients we would need to use, which are:

  • 100 g of unsalted butter

  • 100 g of soft brown sugar

  • 1 large free-range egg

  • Half a teaspoon of vanilla extract

  • 200 g of self-raising flour

  • 100 g of plain chocolate chips

This will make around 12 cookies, it depends on how big or small you would want them. I will take approximately 40 minutes to prepare and then 12-15 minutes to cook.

So to begin with the preparation you will need to:

  • Preheat the oven to 180°C on gas mark 4 or 160°C using the fan.

  • Grease and line two baking trays.

  • Grab a mixing bowl and then mix the butter with the sugar until it is light and fluffy, kind of like cream.

  • Next mix the egg and vanilla extract into the butter.

  • Sift the flour into the mixture and fold through (this is to keep putting the mixture on top of itself, best way I could explain it).

  • Stir in the chocolate chips.

  • Roll the dough into a sausage shape and wrap it up in cling film.

  • Place it into the fridge and let it cool down for at least 20 minutes.

  • Next take it out of the fridge and start cutting it up into round and thin disks. Make sure you remove all the cling film while doing this.

  • Place the raw cookies onto the prepared baking trays and place in the oven for 12-15 minutes.

  • When the are finished take them out and let them cool for a bit.

  • Enjoy your delicious cookies.

Now I'm going to give you a few tips of things to do and things to avoid. These are a few mistakes I've made when trying to make cookies:

  • Don't think the sausage rolling is unnecessary, I grabbed a handful from my mix and put it on the tray and my cookies ended up looking like cakes.

  • Some people tell you to add a bit of salt, in my opinion, this was the worst thing to do, my cookies were so sickly I never even ate them, they ended up in the bin.

  • Make sure you have all the ingredients before starting and try not to change these. Like if you don't have brown sugar, don't use white sugar. There's a 50-50 % chance you're going to ruin the cookies.

  • If you know you're not going to eat all the cookies, you can freeze them and then take them out when you want them and bake them from frozen (this will take a little more time).

  • Take the cookies out of the over when they are golden brown and still a little chewy, they will get crunchy when they are cooling down before eating.

  • Enjoy them with family and friends!

I hope you enjoyed reading this and good luck in making really yummy cookies!
