Eco-Friendly Applications

Hello you guys!

Welcome to another one of my posts!

Today's post is about Eco-friendly apps. As you probably know by now, the world in in big danger from environment damage, all the plastic in the oceans, trees being cut down, animals being hunted and so much more things. The way I see it, one person cannot change all of this by themselves, but all of us, working together, we can stop this, we can find ways to make the world a better place for now and for the future.

The reason I'm making this post is because recently I have been seeing a lot of things about the environment, including the horrible fire in the Amazon Forest and this morning I found an Instagram page called @peta where I saw videos of animals being mistreated and also posts about how they are changing this. I'm not saying we all need to become vegans, but we need to find ways so that animals don't need to be mistreated to gain food or products.

Personally, I can never be a vegan, I don't like any vegetables so I avoid them at the most and there's barely any fruit that I like, I would be living on potatoes and rice. The one thing I never eat though is fish, because I didn't like fish as a child so my mind has been set on not eating it and I love the ocean and for me it's one of my highest priorities to protect. For other people it can be the opposite, they would eat fish but not meat.

Now I've spoken a lot about my opinions, let's get to it!

There are many apps that help the environment and I have picked 5 out, some which I use and others which I found useful or really helpful:

Ecosia

Ecosia is a search engine where every time you search around 45 things, they will use the money from the ads in those searches to plant a tree.

These trees are then planted in Burkina Faso, Madagascar, Peru, Indonesia, Morocco, Brazil, Nicaragua, Ethiopia, Tanzania and many more countries! Currently they are in Andalusia, Spain planting trees in dry lands on the verge of becoming a dessert.

There are currently over 8 million users all over the world, but understand that this is not even one seventh of the population. Every 0.8 seconds enough searches are made to plant a tree, but to help the planet this should be much more faster. Currently around 70 million trees have been planted since Ecosia started, this is so much but so is the amount of trees which are cut down (about 26 football fields worth per second).

I believe Ecosia is doing so much to help the planet and with more people joining everyday, it helps even more. There is so much this search engine does, if you want to find out more click here and it will take you to their page, there is also a lot of information when you download their application or on their Instagram page @ecosia.

Forest

Forest is an application that is used for focusing on daily tasks. You will set a timer on it

(like 30 minutes) and it will close any application you open until that time runs out. Every time you complete this time without giving up, it will plant a digital tree or bush in your digital garden and give you coins for completion. I have been using this application for years now and back then you never had to pay or anything like it, but there is a new feature now.

The new feature is that if you unlock Pro Version for £1.79 (one-time payment) you will be able to use the coins to earn to plant real trees. Currently users have planted around 560 thousand trees. So far each user can only plant up to 5 trees each but they are working on a way so that they can plant more.

I don't have much more to say about this app except that it's good at chucking you out of other apps so that you can stay off your phone and get that homework done or talk to people without going on your phone all the time. It also has relaxing music like the sound of rain and stuff like that to help relax if that is your intention.

If you would like to know more click here and start scrolling down and there's also a link to download their app.

Too good to go

Too good to go is a food app where you can get cheap food which would normally be thrown away. In this application they are fighting food waste.

All you need to do is find a dish you would like to have for your meal, pay for it and it will give you a time to go and pick it up. Then you just go home and eat it. I believe it's important to tell you that they do not deliver. I downloaded this app because I thought it was the best idea, cheap food and it doesn't go to waste, but all of the restaurants are very far away from where I live and I don't have a car, my food would get cold by the time I traveled back home.

I believe when they develop more they'll be more restaurants, some probably nearer to me or I might have a car by then, but for now it does't really help me. One day I'll download this app again and actually start using it.

If you would like to find out more click here and it will take you to their website.

Cleanfox

So this is an app I've just found out about. Cleanfox is a anti-spam app.

According to Cleanfox one email generates 10g of CO2 every year (I'm not sure how, probably something about storing these emails in a data storage and the heat it causes or something) and 80% of all emails aren't even opened.

What Cleanfox does is that it keeps an eye on your emails so that any email from a certain person or company that you don't want to receive emails from, it will delete them and keep them in the big for a few days before permanently deleting them. Another option is for it to delete emails received but keep the newsletter subscription. The final option is to keep the emails, these are the ones you will choose to want to receive.

There's not much else I can say so if you would like to find out more click here, look on your app store or just download the app and find out!

Ocean's Zero

This is another app I have never used before but I am quite exited to try it out, Ocean's Zero is like a personal assistant application that will help you have a zero waste lifestyle.

As you know now, my biggest priority is to save the ocean and this application works to protect it by teaching people how they can reduce their waste. Also, they have recently made the app so that it's in English as well, it was previously in French.

What the app does is it gives you 25 challenges from which you will learn a type of waste or behaviour, its impact on the environment and an action to introduce to your life to avoid it. It basically informs you of a problem that is happening in the world and a something you can do to help solve this problem.

If you want to find out more information click here but I found that the best way to know more is to actually use the app.

That's all for now, I might make a part 2 for this post because I found other applications which I thought were very helpful and interesting.

Thank you for reading! See you tomorrow!
